SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Sixteen Xtreme JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge Ethics and Sportsmanship) between the ages of 12 and 15 participated in a weekend turkey hunt contest sponsored by the Sullivan County Long Beards (SCLB), on April 20 and 21.

A turkey mount was donated by Diane Shelton/Bacon of She Wolf Taxidermy in Roscoe and a 12 gauge Mossberg was donated by Rich and Sue Post of Fur, Fin and Feather Sports Shop in Livingston Manor. They also donated the use of their property for the weigh in. The base for the turkey mount was handmade and donated by Hank D’Auria, who along with Matt Fortino weighed in the birds on both days.

Justin Diehl, took the lead with a bird weighing 22 pounds, nine ounces, with a 9 ¼-inch beard and one-inch spurs.
