Caring for public trees

LIBERTY, NY — Sullivan County residents interested in caring about public trees are invited to help form a new Tree Keepers organization by attending an inaugural meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28 at the CVI Center.

The purpose of the organization is to bring together a working group of individuals with Tree Steward training, arborists and other experts in the field, and representatives of organizations working to protect forests and habitat.

The group will discuss concerns, observations and suggestions for good tree health, care and habitat preservation in Sullivan County. It will develop a reasonable action plan that supports individual efforts in each of the communities represented. The initiative is being sponsored initially by Sullivan Renaissance, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County and individuals concerned about protecting public and private trees. Refreshments will be served. Register at 845/295-2445.

As part of the initiative, there will be a two-day September session on September 18 and 19 at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center, 64 Ferndale Loomis Rd.

To register for the training, visit blogs.cce.cornell.edu/sullivan/ or call 845/292-6180.
