4-H workshops for young gardners

LIBERTY, NY — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County will host a day of 4-H’s spring workshops on April 9 in honor of Earth Day. Horticulture is the theme for this year’s annual event.

The workshops will start at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. From 10 to 11 a.m., Marianna Quartararo will show youth how to increase plant collections by demonstrating basic propagation techniques such as seed starting, root division and cuttings. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., participants may break for lunch, try a variety of make-and-take activities and pick up more information related to gardening and horticulture. From 1 to 2 p.m., Bruce Ackland and Joanne Lyons will present “Container Gardens: How to Create & Exhibit Successfully,” with information on proper plant display and presentation for judging.

Cost for the workshop series is $5 for enrolled 4-Hers and $10 for non-enrolled participants, all supplies provided. Pre-registration is required; call 845/292-6180. For more information about workshops,
