LAKE ARIEL, PA — There will be a seminar on lake water quality issues, such as films of algae and fishy smells, at Lacawac Sanctuary on Sunday, July 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Pocono Lake Ecological Observatory Network (PLEON), can not only help explain why such phenomena occur, but also perform routine sampling to monitor your lake’s water quality and ensure the safety of those living on the lake and using it for recreation. This monitoring can provide a better understanding of the ecology of your lake so that community members can make informed management decisions.

At the workshop, to which all interested lake associations and citizens are invited, Dr. Craig Williamson, PLEON’s chief scientific advisor and Ohio Eminent Scholar of Ecosystem Ecology, will give a brief seminar on limnology and water quality. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the protocols and equipment used to sample and monitor your lakes. This workshop also provides an opportunity to network with other lake associations and develop contacts within the Pocono region.

To attend, RSVP by July 10 to sarah.princiotta@lacawac.org or 570/689 9494.
