PEEC hosts events in November

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) at 538 Emery Rd. will host a variety of events in November, starting with “Fire Building” on Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Learn to make fire without matches by employing techniques that involve sparks and found or prepared tinder. For ages 10 and over. The cost is $5.

“Lenape of the Eastern Woodlands” will be held on Sunday, November 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. Mike Dennis of Traditional Earth Skills will teach about the day-to-day activities of the Lenape culture. The food, clothing and shelter of the local hunter gatherers will be presented, along with handmade artifacts. For ages 10 and over. The cost is $15.

“Naturally Beautiful Beading” will be held on Saturday, November 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Learn to identify different stones such as jasper, geodes, agate, or turquoise and the process used to color-enhance the stones. Instructions will also be given on how to create a bracelet, earrings, or a necklace to take home. The cost is $20.

On Sunday, November 12, from 1 to 3 p.m., PEEC will present “Introduction to Orienteering.” Learn how to use a map and compass on PEEC’s orienteering course. We’ll show you the basics before you try to find all the points. The cost is $5.

PEEC’s seventh annual game dinner will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. This dinner features local game and seasonal harvests. There will be a reception at 5 p.m. in the Ecozone Room. The cost is $35. Call to reserve a seat; this dinner  has sold out for the past two years.
