John E. Marshall, 79, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly on Thursday morning at home. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, the former Marjorie L. Thomas. They were married November 26, 1966.

Born October 30, 1937 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Earl and Almeda Herrmann Marshall.

John graduated from Honesdale High School in the Class of 1955 and attended Penn State University. In 1959, he founded and prospered in the family business, Marshall Machinery, Inc. Over the years, John was bestowed numerous national sales awards in the history of large equipment. John also proudly served on the National Kubota Tractor Corporation Dealer Advisory Board.

In 1983, John became a member of the Board of Directors of Wayne Bank and currently held the position of Chairman of the Board. He also was an Associate Director of the Wayne County Fair Board, and was a former member of the Wayne County Junior 4-H Livestock Sale Committee. John served for many years as a member of the Wayne County Cooperative Extension Board. He was also a member of the PA Farm Bureau. John was a member of both the Honesdale F&AM Lodge #218 and Anthony Wayne Royal Arch Chapter 204, from which he received his 50-year membership pins last week. He also was a member of Savona Commandery No. 89 Knights Templar of Pennsylvania. John was a life member of the Beach Lake Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church.

He is survived by five children: Barbara Diliberti and her husband Perry of Honesdale, Linda Marshall of Honesdale, Earl Marshall and his wife Alicia of Dunmore, Holly Harwood and her husband Damon of Leicester, New York, and Darryl Marshall of Honesdale; five granddaughters: Emma, Jacqueline, Emily, Mary and Mackenzie; a mother-in-law, Mabel Thomas of Honesdale; brother-in-law Erwin Thomas and his wife Gwen of Greenwood, Mississippi; several cousins; and a niece.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, 7 Milanville Road, Beach Lake, PA 18405 with Rev. Barbara Snyder officiating.

Interment was on Tuesday in the Indian Orchard Cemetery.
