Michael Loiodice of Damascus, PA, a retired deputy superintendent for the New York City Sanitation Department and a 26-year area resident, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 88.

The son of the late Louis and Vincenza Manzione Loiodice, he was born November 1, 1923 in Queens. He was the widower of Ada Bettiol Loiodice.

Mr. Loiodice was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Callicoon, NY, the Knights of Columbus Council 4478 of Callicoon, and the Sons of Italy.

He is survived by his children, Vincenza Loiodice, Elena Turell and husband Daniel, Louis Loiodice and wife Cheryl and Angela LaBoda and husband Alan; grandchildren Andrea, William, Jessica, Laura, Ashley, Michael, Adam, Erica, Alyssa and Austin; four great-grandchildren; sister Pina Kavanagh; and brothers Frank and Charles Loiodice.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his many friends and the church for all their love and support.

A funeral mass was held on Monday, December 12 at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Obernburg, NY.
