Douglas A. Heinle of Cochecton Center, NY, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. He was 82.

He was born in Cochecton Center on July 30, 1929 to the late William A. and Laura Nearing Heinle.

Doug was a third-generation retired postmaster of Cochecton Center and former proprietor of Heinles General Store in Cochecton Center. He was a director of the First National Bank of Jeffersonville since 1975.

Doug attended St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg. He was a member and past chief of Narrowsburg Vol. Fire Dept., member of Lava Vol. Fire Dept. and participant of Lake Huntington Vol. Fire Dept. He was a member and past chief of Lava Fire Police. He was a member of Antique Trucks and Tractor Association, of Neversink Rondout Antique Machinery Association and a charter member of the Time and the Valleys Museum of Grahamsville, NY. He was founder and director of Cochecton Center Community Center. He sponsored many softball and bowling leagues. Doug was the official sleigh driver for the Christmas Carollers with his John Deere Tractor.

A family statement reads: “Doug was a loving husband, father, super grandfather and the best great granddad. He was a special person with a heart of gold. He helped so many people and he contributed so much to his community. He will truly be missed.”

Doug is survived by his wife Penny at home; sons Allen Heinle and wife Teresa of Las Vegas, NV, Craig Heinle and wife Terri of Lake Huntington, NY and Brian Heinle and his wife Beth of Lake Huntington; grandchildren Michael Heinle and wife Katrine, Amber Heinle, Brianne Heinle, Brian Scott and wife Katrina, Kristen Sayers and husband Jason, Jonathan Heinle and wife Tonya and Brittany York; three great grandchildren; stepchildren William Beach and wife Jill of Woodburne, NY, Kayse Henry and husband Terrance of New Bern, NC and Willaim Everett of Cochecton; step-grandchildren Eric Beach and wife Rheiannon, Erin Beach, William, Dylan and Cheyenne Everett, Karalyn, Madison and Thad Henry; sister Eleanor Martin of Waymart, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Doug is predeceased by his first wife Eleanor Dexter Heinle; and brother Arthur Heinle.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday December 12, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg, NY. Rev. William Scully O.F.M. officiated.

Burial was in Laurel Cemetery, Cochecton Center, NY.
