Gladys M. Engvaldsen of Honesdale, PA died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in the Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, PA. She was 90.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey N. Engvaldsen.

Born on June 15, 1921 in Plains, PA she was the daughter of the late John and Maude Gertrude Soden Phillips.

Gladys was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Honesdale; a 19-year employee of Kolmar Labs; a volunteer for Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Head Start Program; and was “Grandma Gladys” at the former Stourbridge Elementary School where she enjoyed visiting students.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the love and care that Gladys received at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in Lake Ariel.

She is survived by daughters Carol Patroni and husband Joe of Shohola, PA, Karen Day and husband Eddie of Honesdale, Alice Frolio of Campball Hall, NY and Trudy Biccum and husband David of Matamoras, PA; and nephew Edward Akins of Brooklyn; grandchildren Michele Polanis, Walter Kleinhans, Dr. Tracy Sanchez, Dr. Stephen Day, Rebecca Biccum, and Emily Biccum; and nine great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by a sister, Adaline Akins.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Bryant Funeral Home, Lake Ariel. Interment will be in the Rowlands Cemetery at a later date. Visit www.bryantfuneralhome.com.
