ALOYSIUS BISHOP CUYJET

Aloysius Bishop Cuyjet, formerly of Lake Huntington, NY, passed away in Tempe, AZ on May 21.

He was born in Philadelphia to Aloysius Felix and Helen Bishop Cuyjet on January 31, 1914.

Dr. Cuyjet was a graduate of Temple University and Temple University School of Dentistry; as the only African-American, he graduated first in class. During WWII, he was a member of the Tuskegee Dental Corps with the rank of Major. He practiced dentistry for many years in Jersey City, NJ and Lake Huntington, was a Mensa member and was active in the AA fellowship for 50 years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

He is survived by sons Aloysius and wife Beverly on Long Island; Gregory and wife Valerie in New Jersey and Glenn and wife Roberta on Long Island; and grandchildren Sienna, Sequoyah, Alyssa and Sebastian.

He is predeceased by brother John; and sisters Cornelia and Lillian.
