Herman Esselman of Damascus, PA, a retired milk plant supervisor and longtime resident of the area, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA. He was 95.
The son of the late Klaas and Derkji Snyder Esselman, he was born August 11, 1915 in Prospect Park, NJ.
Herman was married for 65 years to the late Florence Algera Esselman, who had passed away on October 27, 2004.
Herman was a member of the Damascus Baptist Church and the Damascus Township Volunteer Ambulance Corp. A family statement reads: “Herman was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a big part of the family. He will be missed.”
Survivors include daughters Deanna Tegeler and husband Robert of New City, NY, Lynda Marks and husband Frank of Damascus, PA, Nancy Avery and husband Lyle of Beach Lake, PA; sons Herman Esselman and wife Dot of Lake Huntington, NY and Robert Esselman and wife Betty Ann of Frost Proof, FL; brother Richard Esselman of New Jersey; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his wife; two brothers; and three sisters.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, April 15, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Damascus Baptist Church, Damascus, PA. The Rev Stuart Hunt will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Damascus.
