Elizabeth J. “Betty” Hawker of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Clarence and Johanna Van Beeck Winchell, she was born November 22, 1924 in Jersey City, NJ.

Betty was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg. She served as Tusten Town Clerk from 1991 to 1999. She was a charter member of Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a member of Tusten Historical Society and a volunteer for the Narrowsburg Ecumenical Food Pantry.

Survivors include sons Arthur Hawker and wife Patricia of Narrowsburg and William Hawker and wife Sachiyo of Concord, CA; daughter Kathryn Anderson and husband Richard of Annapolis, MD; grandchildren Laura Christ and husband Peter of San Antonio, TX, Jennifer Hawker of Scranton, PA, Megan Hawker of San Diego, CA, Joseph Hawker of Toronto, Canada and Jun Hawker of Concord, CA.

Betty is predeceased by husband Searle Alfred Hawker; and brothers William and Richard Winchell.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 31 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764. Funeral services will be held April 1 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiating.

Cremation will follow at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. Burial of the cremains will be in Glen Cove Cemetary, Narrowsburg.
