Caesar Rodney’s ride for the Declaration

August 23, 2012

NARROWSBURG, NY — Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History continues its program of historical presentations at 1 p.m. on August 26, when noted children’s author Jan Cheripko elaborates on the dramatic, not-so-famous story he tells in “Caesar Rodney’s Ride: The Story of an American Patriot,” an award-winning book for young adults describing Rodney’s ride to Philadelphia to cast a crucial vote on the Declaration of Independence.

Kirkus Reviews said: “The ride is tense throughout, with the fate of the future nation hanging on his vote… The story concentrates on his trip, but manages to convey the drama of this pivotal moment in American history. Fascinating.”

Mr. Cheripko will also discuss another book he is currently working on for middle grade readers. It is about John Laurens, the son of Henry Laurens, the second president of the Continental Congress.

The presentation is included in the price of admission to Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History on Route 97 just outside Narrowsburg. Call 845/252-6660.
