Liberty sisters arrested for assaulting boyfriend

On Sunday, July 27th 2012 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested three sisters after an investigation of an assault that took place in an apartment on Chestnut Street.

Police began the investigation around 5 AM Sunday morning when the victim walked into the police department suffering injuries to his face. Investigation revealed that the victim’s girlfriend, Chiffvon Steele along with her two sisters Takisha Steele and Ashanta Steele assaulted the victim with a belt and Ashanta Steele held a 12 inch kitchen knife to the victim’s throat and threatened him.

All three sisters were arrested in Monticello by the Village of Liberty Police with the assistance of the Village of Monticello Police Department. Takisha Steele, Ashanta Steele, and Chiffvon Steele were charged with Assault in the second degree, and Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, both felonies.

Ashanta Steele was additionally charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a felony and menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor. In addition, Takisha Steele was charged with two counts of misdemeanor Endangering the welfare of a child by having contact with her children during the incident which was in violation of a court order.

All three sisters were arraigned at the Town of Liberty Court. Chiffvon and Takisha Steele were remanded in lieu of $12,000 Bail to Sullivan County Jail and Ashanta Steele was remanded in lieu of $15,000 Bail.
