Looking for a liquor bottle litterer
April 18, 2012 —
Multiple empty pint bottles of Smirnoff’s Vodka are being discarded at regular intervals along Route 390 in Greentown. Pennsylvania State Police and park officials want the illegal dumping to stop and are asking the public for information related to the activity.
The dumping is occurring between the Bruce Lake and Egypt Meadow trailhead parking areas along state forest land near Promised Land State Park. It is unknown whether the bottles are being discarded from a vehicle or by someone walking. If identified, the perpetrator could face a $300 fine for each littering incident. There are estimated to be at least 50, and possibly more, bottles in the area.
Promised Land State Park operations manager Alex Stout said that park rangers will be investigating the dumping, documenting the incidents and cleaning up the area.
Trooper Kevin Varcoe of the Pennsylvania State Police in nearby Blooming Grove said that trash along Pike County roadways appears to be more prevalent than usual this year.
Pennsylvania residents can do their part by registering an event in the Great American Cleanup through May 31. Registered events can get free cleanup supplies such as bags, gloves and vests donated by PennDOT and Keep America Beautiful. Visit www.gacofpa.org to learn more and register your event.
Anyone with information is asked to call DCNR at 570/676-3428 or 570/895-4000 or email Stout at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the PA State Police at 570/226-5718. Although helpful, callers do not need to identify themselves.
