William E. “Sonny” Dennis of Honesdale, PA, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at home. He was 73.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, the former Ellen B. Yakaboski. They were married on March 30, 1963.

Born on January 28, 1939 in Smith Hill, he was the son of the late Asa N. Dennis and Geraldine Gilbert Dennis. After high school in Damascus, PA, Sonny served in the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated the family dairy farm. Devoted to agriculture, Sonny was fond of John Deere tractors and the rural farm lifestyle in which he and his wife raised their family. In the late 1960s, Sonny was acknowledged as the Wayne County Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. He will be remembered as a kind, hard working, and good hearted man, willing to help anyone in need, whose family was very dear to him.

He is also survived by children Timothy E. Dennis of Jeffersonville, NY and companion Lisa Edwards, Ted W. Dennis and wife Lisa of Coudersport, PA and Julie Ludwig and husband Bill of Bethany, PA; granddaughter Maddie Ludwig; and brother Charles A. Dennis.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Krol.

Funeral Services with Military Honors were held on February 15 in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale, with Rev. William Rushik officiating.
