SPARTA, NJ — Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon will hold a raptor migration watch at Sunrise Mountain in Sparta NJ, on Monday, September 17.
Every year you can see hundreds of broad-wing hawks at this venue as they begin their journey south to Central and South America. The timing of this migration is critical for the many juvenile birds that were just fledglings less than a month before, and who haven’t been engaged in sustained, daily flight for more then 20 to 30 minutes since fledging. Bring a lunch and wear good hiking boots to walk the last few hundred yards to the top of the mountain from the car park. Call 570/ 253-2364.
