‘Hairspray’ hits the boards in Fallsburg

August 4, 2011

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop will stage the musical comedy “Hairspray” on Friday and Saturday, August 5, 6, 12, 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, August 7, 14 at 2 p.m. in the Rivoli Theatre, 5243 Main Street (Route 42). The TONY award-winning musical features 1960s-style dance music and “downtown” rhythm and blues.

The year is 1962, the place is Baltimore, and Tracy Turnblad (Gabrielle Dworkin of Goshen) is a big girl with a big heart and a passion to dance on the Corny Collins (Scott Eckers of Swan Lake) show. Tracy’s mother, the plus-size Edna Turnblad (Joe Jervais of Middletown) fears that if her daughter auditions for television, she will only be laughed at. But Tracy perseveres, and when she wins a spot on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight.

Tickets cost $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for students with a valid student ID. Tickets will be available at the box office one hour prior to curtain or can be purchased www.ShowTix4u.com. Visit www.scdw.net or call 845/436-5336.
