Genevieve B. “Gene” Hoey of Glen Spey, NY, and a long time resident of the area, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 93.

She was born January 3, 1918 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late John F. and Mary Tierney Burns.

Gene married James A. Hoey on June 16, 1951 and they were married for 49 years prior to his death on October 11, 2000.

She worked as a bookkeeper for John Robert Powers in Brooklyn and moved with the company to Port Jervis. She later worked for Crescent Silver in Port Jervis and Sullivan County as a bookkeeper.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church Of Padua, Yulan, NY and the Lumberland Senior Citizens Group.

She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Gene was the last survivor of six brothers and sisters, and is predeceased by Gerard Burns, Marion McAveney, John Burns, Helen Burns and Evelyn Cross.

Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Monday, April 25, at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church Of Padua, 25 Beaverbrook Road, Yulan, NY 12792 with Rev. Thomas P. Jones OFM officiating.

Burial will be at St. Lucy’s Cemetery, Cochecton, NY.
