Evan Mack’s ‘My Other Journey Home’

October 9, 2013

BETHEL, NY — Evan Mack returns to the community for his first concert in Sullivan County since 2007. “My Other Journey Home” is a concert of music composed by Mack, with works for solo piano, opera, violin and choir on Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Woods Center for Performing Arts. The performance will include mezzo-soprano Kara Cornell, violinist Joshua Rodriguez, and the Port Jervis High School Choir under the baton of Ruth Ann Gordon. The choir will sing Evan Mack’s “Langston Hughes’s Dream of Freedom.”

Before the show there will be a hands-on art activity from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., based on the afternoon’s performance. It is designed to contextualize the performance, helping to immerse youth of all ages in the arts through a variety of media.

Mack is the composer and librettist of “Angel of the Amazon,” which premiered in May 2011 by Encompass New Opera Theatre at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City and has been released worldwide by Albany Records. His opera “Beach and Moan” is the 2013 winner of Atlanta Opera’s 24-hour Opera Project. His new opera, “The Secret of Luca,” premiered in Cincinnati in 2012 and is being workshopped across the country. He is published with Hal Leonard. Mack’s latest opera is an adaptation of the best-selling novel Roscoe, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Kennedy. On October 13, Mack will be inducted into the Port Jervis Hall of Fame.

This event is free and open to the public. Groups of six or more coming with an established group (like a scout troop) can make reservations through
