Historic Honesdale’s Harvest & Heritage Days

HONESDALE, PA — Historic Honesdale rolls out the pumpkins, hay bales, cornstalks, fall colors and scarecrows, for its annual “Harvest & Heritage Days,” on Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13, sponsored by Wayne Bank with support from Wayne County Tourism and brought to you by the Greater Honesdale Partnership.
Craft vendors will line Main Street on both days, and the many superhero-themed scarecrows that merchants have made will be on display. Old-fashioned hayrides will be offered downtown, for a small fee, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Railroad exhibits will be on display at the Wayne County Historical Society Museum. The newly expanded and renovated Historical Society museum also offers many other exhibits and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The Wayne County farmers’ market is held on Saturday, October 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The market is located next to the Visitor’s Center, trackside, just one block off Main Street.
And for the kids, there will be pumpkin painting in front of The Honesdale National Bank’s Corporate Center on Main Street, sponsored by Connections Magazine. Pumpkin painting will be available on Saturday, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The first 100 children will walk away with a goodie bag. There will be music and demonstrations under the Fred Miller Pavilion both days.
Also on Saturday, the ninth annual “Corn Shucking Contest” will be held under the Fred Miller Pavilion from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday evening will also feature an antique car cruise around Honesdale’s Central Park from 5 to 9 p.m. More than 75 antique cars are expected to cruise into town. Starting at 5 p.m., D.J. Rickie Z will play music from the 50s and 60s.
On Sunday, taste some of the best homemade wings and chili as several of the area restaurants and local chefs compete to see who makes the best. The Wing & Chili Taste-off takes place from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and is co-sponsored by Rent-E-Vent by Rent-E-Quip.
The Dessin Animal Shelter’s seventh annual “Pets on Parade” costume competition paraded down Main Stree at 1 p.m. on Sunday, with the costume judging under the Fred Miller Pavilion at approximately 2 p.m. For information about the parade, call 570/647-0057.
