A reader called to report that the Eldred branch of Jeff Bank was robbed on September 24. The call to the police came in at 11:35 a.m., and police are looking for a tall white man with heavy facial hair, wearing tan and off-white clothing.

There was a report that the man may have been carrying a silver handgun. The suspect reportedly initially fled on foot, but later got into a vehicle, which sped off in the direction of Narrowsburg.

The nearby Eldred Central School was locked down as a precaution, and the lock-down was lifted as police officials made sure the students got on the buses in the afternoon.

The last time that bank was robbed was February 17, 2012. In that case the suspect, John Armbruster, 52, of Monticello, was ultimately captured and sentenced to up to five years in state prison.

District Attorney Jim Farrell said that on the morning of the robbery, Armbruster entered the bank branch and handed the teller a note stating he had a gun and wanted money. The teller gave him $2,945 and he then fled the bank.
