Edward J. DeFebo, Sr.

Edward J. DeFebo, Sr. of Lackawaxen, PA, passed away on July 25, 2013 at home with his loving family. He was 80.

Son of the late Warren and Mary (Silvetti) DeFebo, Edward was born in Berwick, PA, on May 17, 1933. He was married to Janice (Weeks) DeFebo on April 8, 1961.

A graduate of Berwick High School and former Berwick Bulldog, he attended Lycoming College. As a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, he served as a state trooper in the Daleville, Honesdale and Milford areas. He also proudly served his country as a MP in the U.S. Army. Edward was a Lackawaxen Twp. road master/supervisor for 12 years and he served as the Lackawaxen Twp. police chief. He received the Oaken Gavel award while serving on the Upper Delaware Council as chairman. He and his wife Janice owned and operated Jungle Jim’s Tavern for 22 years. The DeFebo family has long been associated with St. Ann’s Catholic parish in Shohola and the Maria Assunta Society of Berwick.

Edward was predeceased by his son, James; brothers, Lou (twin), Sam, John, and Joe; and sister, Clara. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; his sons, Edward and wife Sandra, William and wife Rose, and Charles and wife Cynthia; his brothers, Karl DeFebo of Harrisburg, Michael and wife Jane of Berwick; his sister, Rita and husband Arthur Cronin of Harrisburg; sister-in-law, Nancy Defebo of Berwick; his grandchildren, Tonya, Nicole, Billy, Rebecca, Nicholas, Joseph, Cameron, and Clayton; and many great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Ann’s Church in Shohola on July 30 with Rev. Thomas Major officiating. Interment took place at Lackawaxen Cemetery, Lackawaxen, PA.
