Van stolen to transport stolen TV

March 6, 2013

On February 25, 2013 at approximately 11:00 AM, the Monticello Police Department received a report of a stolen van that had been taken from Mr. Willy’s Restaurant in the Town of Thompson and was traveling towards the Village on State Route 42.

Monticello Police notified the Sheriff’s Patrol of the incident. While heading toward Mr. Willy’s, Sheriff’s Corporal Danny Zayas noticed that the front door of a residence, across from the Perfecta Bar on ST-42, was wide open. He stopped to investigate and discovered that the home had been burglarized.

The owner had left briefly to go to a doctor’s appointment when the burglar struck. Sheriff’s Detectives and the Monticello Police canvassed the area, eventually locating the stolen van in front of a residence at 40 Pine Street in the Village of Monticello. Deputies arrested Richard Ramos, age 40, who resided at that address.

The investigation revealed that Ramos had burglarized the residence across from the Perfecta Bar and stole a 52 inch flat screen TV. With no way to transport the TV, Ramos then stole the van from Mr. Willy’s in order to make his getaway with the property. Detectives recovered the TV and charged Richard Ramos with Felony Burglary and Grand Larceny. He was arraigned by Town of Thompson Judge Martin Miller and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending further court action.
