One of the categories in this year’s Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission photo contest is “Reptiles and Amphibians.” This reptile, a snapping turtle, was photographed earlier this year in Pike County, PA.

PENNSYLVANIA – Many readers of The River Reporter who enjoy the River Talk column’s weekly images of nature are themselves handy with a camera. Based on some of the photos we’ve received from readers over the years, we know there are a good number of folks out there dedicated to capturing beautiful photos of the abundant wildlife and waterways in the Upper Delaware region.

To that end, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has extended the deadline for its annual photography contest to January 31, 2013. Works may be featured in PFBC publications such as Pennsylvania Angler and Boater magazine or enlarged as visuals for PFBC sportshow exhibits.

The PFBC encourages submissions that show appreciation for the Commonwealth’s fishing and boating opportunities and aquatic resources.

There are three judged categories this year with various prizes.

“Anglers and Boaters” invites photographers to submit pictures showing themselves and family members on the water. “Waterway Scenics” encourages inspiring environmental images of favorite Pennsylvania streams or lakes. “Reptiles and Amphibians” is an opportunity to share photos of the frogs, toads, snakes, turtles, salamanders, or skinks that are also residents of the state.
