Ellenville woman charged with killing her mother

ELLENVILLE, NY — Sarra Gilbert, 27, has been charged in the stabbing death of her mother, Mari. The body was discovered by Ellenville police officers when they arrived on the scene on July 23, after being asked to go to the apartment by another daughter, Sherre Gilbert.

Police found Sarra still dressed in bloody clothing, and they recovered a knife that they believe was the murder weapon.

On the day of the killing, Long Island Attorney John Ray heard about the incident and having represented Mari, drove up to the scene. He told a reporter that Sarra had begun hearing voices a few years ago.

Ray represented Mari when she made national headlines in May 2010 when a third daughter, Shannon, was found dead on a Long Island beach. Shannon had advertised herself as an escort on the Internet, and before she was killed she called 911 and screamed into the phone, “They’re trying to kill me.”

Mari refused to accept the police version of events that she accidentally drowned.
