Sullivan household hazardous waste collection

MONTICELLO, NY — There will be a hazardous household waste collection for Sullivan County residents at the Monticello transfer station on Broadway on July 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Two forms of identification are required for proof of residency.

Acceptable items include: solvents, oil-based paints, antifreeze, pool chemicals, acids, bases, fluorescent bulbs, cleaning products, mercury-containing devices, pesticides/herbicides, automotive batteries, roofing tar, wood preservatives, adhesives, creosote, stains and inks.

Unacceptable items include: radioactive materials, explosives, ammunition, electronics, consumer batteries, fire extinguishers, LP/gas tanks, medical waste, refrigeration devices, latex paint. No commercial or agricultural waste will be accepted.

All participants must pre-register by calling 845/807-0291 prior to July 15 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Callers are advised to leave a message providing name, address, phone number and list of items to be dropped off.

There will be another collection on August 27.
