SCRANTON, PA — You board a haunted hay ride and journey into the woods when you have to depart the wagon and enter a sideshow freak circus, then you enter a pitch-black maze, completely robbed of your sight. But that’s not all, if you survive the maze you come upon a zombie wasteland. These are all part of Reaper’s Revenge four attractions: Haunted Hayride, Lost Carnival, Pitch Black, and Sector 13.
Voted America’s Best Haunted Attraction, Reaper’s Revenge is located on 60 acres of forest in Scranton. The scary attraction takes place on weekends before Halloween, so this coming weekend is your last chance to test your fate; it’s open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The ticket booth opens at 6 p.m. and stays open until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 p.m. on Sunday. It costs $35.
President and founder Paul Kotran said he always loved Halloween, and went to many haunted attractions. But, “Like most things I do, I thought I could do it a little better,” he joked. Reaper’s Revenge is now in its seventh season, and Kotran said it has grown throughout the years, and “the best is yet to come.”
He credits his staff for the growth and popularity of the event. They have a steady year-round staff with a few department heads, but come time for the main event there are about 140 actors dressed in their best clown or zombie costumes with hi-tech makeup ready to scare you.
