DeBRUCE, NY — State Police in Liberty investigated a fatal motor vehicle and bicycle accident that occurred on July 13 on DeBruce Road in the Town of Rockland in which an 18-year-old man from New York City was killed.

The initial investigation determined that a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, towing a camper trailer, was traveling on DeBruce Road following behind two bicyclists, all heading in a west-bound direction. The Grand Cherokee attempted to pass the two bicyclists on the left in the area of Old County Route 82A.

As the Grand Cherokee was moving past the closer of the two bicyclists, the operator of the bicycle moved to the left into the path of the vehicle, was struck and thrown from the bicycle.

The bicycle operator, identified as Tristan Serrano, of New York City, was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

No tickets were issued to the driver of the Grand Cherokee. The exact cause of the accident is pending further investigation at this time.
