Sterling Township man arrested after stand-off

STERLING TOWNSHIP, PA — Robert Brundage, 62, of Sterling Township was arrested on November 17 on 10 counts of attempted homicide and 10 counts of aggravated assault.

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, said Brundage initially physically assaulted his girlfriend, Hope Hernandez, age 47, on November 16. Brundage also poured gasoline on her and then retrieved a pistol and said, “I want you dead.” Brundage fired five shots at Hernandez. Hernandez then fled to a neighbor’s home and called 911.

Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) from the Honesdale Barracks and PSP Blooming Grove responded to the scene. Brundage then fired numerous shots at the responding troopers from his home. Officers from the Dunmore PSP barracks assisted at the scene and the special emergency response team from the PSP was summoned and arrived shortly thereafter.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Brundage surrendered to law enforcement by voluntarily exiting his home. He was taken into custody and later arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Ronald Edwards with bail set at $1 million.

District Attorney Edwards stated, “this was an extraordinary incident wherein the dangers of being a police officer are clear. The Pennsylvania State Police acted swiftly and with extreme precision to secure the scene and ended the encounter without the loss of life. They should be commended.”
