PALMYRA TOWNSHIP, PA — A two-car crash on the Owego Turnpike in Palmyra Township on November 2 left one person dead and three others transported to hospitals with serious injuries. Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say Manuel Mirailh, 57, of Lake Ariel was killed when he lost control of his car, a 1998 Oldsmobile, and he crashed head-on into a 2014 Mazda.
The crash caused the Mazda to flip on its side, trapping four people inside. The occupants were extricated by fire and rescue personnel from the White Mills Fire Department and the Hawley Fire Department.
Three of the victims were transported by helicopter to Geisinger Community Medical Center, while the fourth was transported by ground to the same facility. The victims were: Antonio Silva, 46, and Kimblery Silva, 46, both of Cliffwood Beach, NJ; Michael Smith, 64, and Susan Smith, 49, of Milford.
Mirailh was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call PSP at Honesdale 570/253-7126.
