Hawley wins paint job

Hawley has been named one of 20 communities throughout the United States and Canada to win a contest to have its downtown Main Avenue storefronts repainted—for free. The contest, called “Main Street Matters,” was sponsored by paint manufacturer Benjamin Moore. The contest involved having people vote online. Among the list of 100 towns nominated was Narrowsburg, NY.

In Hawley, local residents hope that being on the list of winners will help put their town on the map. Other towns that won include Sea Bright, NJ, which was hit hard in Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and Joplin, MO, which is still recovering from a devastating tornado in 2011. Representatives of the paint manufacturer will consult with Hawley businesses about choosing paint colors. Local crews will be hired for the job.

Benjamin Moore has announced that there will be another contest in 2014.
