Callicoon Flea Market closing its doors

Posted

The Callicoon Flea Market was jumping on the Fourth of July weekend, full of weekenders and visitors browsing through Life magazines, antique furniture, musical instruments and all kinds of merchandise.

This will be the last season for the store. The owners, Carol and Frank Kay, decided to close the business after 34 years. Carol said, “We just decided it was time to spend more time with family and grand-kids and enjoy life a little bit. We’re hoping that someone will come in here and have the same concept or maybe a different concept and create something that the people in town will enjoy.”

The couple said the store has evolved over the years, and changes were made by listening to what the customers want. Carol said, “If someone wants clam-shucking knives, the next year I will have them.”

Frank said, “We have everything from 50-year-old bell-bottom jeans, to toys and blow-up boats (which are now sold out.) Everything in the store is now on sale, and furniture is 50% off.”

The couple owns two storefronts which they hope to lease to new businesses on Lower Main Street.
