Peifer calls budget responsible

HARRISBURG, PA — Representative Mike Peifer said the $28,376 billion state budget adopted by the Pennsylvania House and Senate and signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett addresses the state’s ongoing fiscal challenges while prioritizing funding for education, public safety, health and the environment.

“In yet another challenging budget year, we were able to increase funding for our schools and other core government services without any new or increased taxes,” said Peifer, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which is charged with crafting the state budget. “I am confident this budget is another important step forward in our effort to return to responsible spending.”

State funding for K through 12 education reaches a record high $10 billion in this budget, with an increase of $122 million alone for basic education. Every school district in Peifer’s district will receive an increase in funding in the coming fiscal year. Additionally, the Accountability Block Grant program, which provides flexible funding for schools, continues with $100 million in funding.
