ALBANY, NY — The Empire State Association of Assisted Living (ESAAL) lauded the passage on June 17 of a Senate bill, S.5628, that will reduce red-tape and expedite the review of license applications and allow providers to expand vital housing and services to elderly residents they serve.

Specifically, the measure, sponsored by Senator Kemp Hannon, chairman of the Senate Health Committee, will allow existing licensees in good standing to use a streamlined application process when seeking approval to obtain or expand an Adult Care Facility (“ACF”) or Assisted Living Residence (“ALR”) license.

According to ESAAL, current laws and regulations are burdensome, labor-intensive and involve volumes of unnecessary paperwork for all ACF and ALR applicants. As a result, the application review processes has become backlogged with hundreds of applications pending for several years.
