A Bucks County man who had been accused of gnawing on a woman’s head while naked and covered with blood was sentenced on May 3 to time in Wayne County Prison. Richard Cimino appeared in Wayne County Court, and will spend from 90 days to 23.5 months in prison.

He faced charges of assault, indecent exposure and making terroristic threats in a violent incident that occurred in Hawley in September 2012.

Some newspapers have dubbed the incident a zombie attack because of Cimino’s bizarre behavior.

According to police, at about 4:30 a.m., Cimino was driving his car when it left the roadway and he ended up behind a house on Hudson Street. He stripped completely naked and broke into a nearby unoccupied home.

He made his way to the second floor and jumped through a window. The police report said the jump “seriously injured his arms and other extremities,” and he was bleeding rather heavily, but he kept moving.

Cimino then approached Ann Monaghan and Nancy Dean-Corino, and attacked them, knocking Dean–Corino to the ground. According to the police report, he, “gnawed at Dean-Corino’s head and screamed like an animal.”

Cimino was ultimately shot with a taser to subdue him. Officials said at the time he may have been under the influence of bath salts, which are synthetic drugs manufactured to circumvent drug laws, but which are increasingly implicated in violent acts.

Cimino’s mother, Sandra Cimino, appeared at the sentencing and pleaded with the judge to consider her son as a recovering addict who had enrolled in college, and not the naked and raving individual who caused such havoc that night.

But Judge Raymond Hamill said he could not ignore the negative impact Richards actions had on the two women he had attacked and other members of the community.

Richard sobbed openly when addressing the court and apologized for his behavior. He said the incident had opened his eyes, and prompted him to seriously address his drug addiction.
