UPPER DELAWARE RIVER VALLEY — While Mother Nature dumped several inches of snow on the region on March 19, the snowfall for the season was a bit less than normal, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service keeps records on the average amount of snowfall for select cities, and for Binghamton, NY, which is the closest such city to the Upper Delaware River Valley, the average snowfall for the months of December, January and February is 57.1 inches. For the same period this year, the total was 49.2 inches.

By comparison, in Central Park in New York City the normal amount of snowfall for the three-month period is 21 inches. This year, the total was 14 inches.

Locally, the forecast calls for lower than average temperatures for the next couple of weeks, but the outlook going forward predicts the probability for higher than normal temperatures in the region. While drought conditions persist in some parts of the country, the precipitation outlook for this region calls for an average amount of rain.
