Fanslau meets with village officials

The former Sullivan County manager, David Fanslau, has reportedly met with the board of trustees of the Village of Monticello to discuss the possibility of serving temporarily as the manager of the village.

Fanslau left his position with the county on March 2, after a lengthy process in which five of the nine legislators said they no longer wanted him to remain and began the process to change the county charter so that a majority of five legislators could remove him rather than a supermajority of six.

As part of his termination package, Fanslau received more than $84,000, and his annual salary was $145,633.

Village officials have said that contacts with Fanslau are at the very early stages and nothing has been decided about hiring a new village manager.

Mayor Gorden Jenkins is the acting village manager, and this situation has drawn criticism from other members of the board of trustees.
