Film festival moves to Middletown

The Hoboken International Film Festival (HIFF), which has grown in popularity over the past seven years of its existence, will be moving to Middletown this summer. An announcement about the move was made at a press conference with New York Senator Chuck Schumer, the head of the film festival Kenneth Del Vecchio on February 19. Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano was also on hand.

The festival has not been held in Hoboken, NJ for the past two years, and last year was held in Jersey City, NJ in a venue that was seriously damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

This year the festival will be held from May 31 to June 6 and will feature more than 90 films. In the past couple of years, the festival has drawn more than 90,000.

According to the festival’s website, actor Eric Roberts will accept the 2013 HIFF Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony on the last day of the festival.

Also, a new film that stars Roberts, called “Scavenger Killers” and billed as a serial killer/horror film, will be screened on the opening night of the festival.
