The final two members of a burglary ring have been sentenced. Elliot Hernandez, 19, of Monticello, was sentenced to seven years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for his role in four burglaries of homes in the Towns of Forestburgh and Thompson.

Freddy Mendoza, 17, also of Monticello, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for his role in the burglary of a home in the Town of Forestburgh. Valuables such as electronic devices, jewelry and money were stolen.

District attorney Farrell said that these young men, “invaded the sanctity of the home where we all should be safe and secure and destroyed that for those homeowners.” He added that the sentences handed down by county judge Michael McGuire “were consistent with my office’s continuing resolve to hold residential burglars accountable with state prison sentences.”

Previously sentenced members of the ring included Joseph Strong, 18, who received eight years in prison and Aniebal Santiago, 19, who received 10 years in prison sentence for their role in the burglaries.

In all, 10 homes were burglarized by the group in the towns of Fallsburg, Bethel, Forestburgh and Thompson. “We will continue to aggressively prosecute those individuals who break into our homes and destroy our safety and security,” Farrell said.
