Our River Talk columnist Scott Rando sent us this photograph the morning of Wednesday, June 6, along with the following note:

“I gave up on seeing the transit of Venus due to the cloud cover and went to run errands and go to a meeting in NY. The meeting ended and as I reached home around sunset, there was a sliver of sun... just a sliver!

I grabbed the camera and spotted a place where the sun was still hitting the slope and set up quickly. I used a mylar solar filter to protect eyes and camera, and with about a minute to spare, I got this shot. You can see the disk of Venus superimposed on the upper right corner of the Sun, which lost its lower half due to trees on a western ridge. Clouds are also sneaking in. Another sunset in Shohola!”
