Wingert/Harrison ad not placed by Tusten Concerned Citizens

NARROWSBURG, NY — An advertisement that appeared on page 12 of our print paper reads “Paid for by Tusten Concerned Citizens.” It was not in fact paid for by that group.

It is necessary to have a “paid for by” line on political advertising, and the individual who placed the ad revised the copy for this line in the final revision. We did not catch or question the change in the disclosure line.

Unfortunately, the name is identical to that of a Tusten group which, among other things, is affiliated with the monthly SkyDog supper club community events, and has no association with the opinions expressed in the ad.

That group is holding a meet-the-candidates event this Saturday, November 5 at the Town Hall at 6 p.m. All Tusten candidates have been invited to the event to share their views.

The River Reporter staff is taking steps to educate itself more fully on election advertising disclosure and implementing internal procedures to enforce those. Additionally, we will share the requirements with our readers before the next election.
