Wayne Memorial Hospital is advising its employees and the public that the pedestrian bridge across the Lackawaxen River will be removed on Friday, October 7th, for extensive repairs. The bridge is expected to be out for three to four weeks, according to the hospital’s Facility Service Director, John Conte.
“Both the deck and the structural steel need to be repaired and reinforced,” said Conte. He added that the bridge has sustained a lot of corrosion in its 12 year history. It was laid across the river by a huge crane in March of 2004.
The bridge connects two parking lots which will remain open for employees, Conte continued. The lot on the hospital side of the river was recently expanded for patients and staff.
When the bridge is re-installed, it is expected to have a canopy and side-walls to protect pedestrians and the bridge itself from the elements. Conte said the side-walls can be removed in fair weather.
