Millennium Pipeline’s proposed compressor station in the Town of Highland will be the subject of an informational forum from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 20 at Eldred Central School (600 Route 55, Eldred, NY.)

Impacts of the project on health, property values, and the environment will be discussed, as well as legal options.

Presenters will include Larysa Dyrszka, MD, a board-certified pediatrician and former Director of Pediatrics at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ, whose recent work has focused on children’s rights with the Conference of NGOs at the United Nations.

Dr. Dyrszka is an advocate for health on the issue of natural gas exploration and production, and is a founding member of Sullivan Area Citizens for Responsible Energy Development (SACRED); vice-chair of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) curriculum committee for Physicians, Scientists and Engineers for Healthy Energy; and on the board of Physicians for Social Responsibility – New York. Together with fellow medical colleagues, she founded Concerned Health Professionals of New York.

Joining Dr. Dyrszka will be environmental attorney Maya K. van Rossum, leader of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network who will discuss the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and its process; animal biologist Richard Malenky; Matt Walker of the Clean Air Council; and several neighbors of existing compressor stations who will share their experiences.

The event will be moderated by members of Highland Concerned Citizens and Sullivan County Residents Against Millenium. (SCRAM) For more information, go to nyscram.org or facebook.com/MilleniumGetOut.
