A pike county woman has died after being hit by a car near Lake Wallenpaupack on August 11. According to Pennsylvania State Police, 56-year-old Diane Bernstel was struck as she was walking across Route 6 near Hawley.

The car that struck her was being driven by 50-year-old Nancy Piotrowski of Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, and it was a 2000 Ford Mustang.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 in the evening and Bernstel was flown to Geisinger Community Medical Center, but she succumbed to her injuries two days later.

The death has been ruled an accident by the Lackawana County coroner.
