Healthcare quality week in Wayne

Posted

A number of professionals connected to the Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) and Wayne Memorial Health System attended the kick-off of Healthcare Quality Week, which will occur from October 14 to 20.

These centers are functionaries of the Wayne Memorial Hospital.

“Quality professionals make a positive contribution to improved healthcare by monitoring outcomes, analyzing data to facilitate improved systems and by maintaining high ethical standards,” said Brian Smith, chairman of the Wayne County commissioners.

“We started a quality assurance program at the health centers,” said Patty Bohs, health quality specialist. “We want to publicly reveal what we have been doing behind the scenes.”

“One of the things we are seeing is that the whole health care system is moving to healthcare quality and not just quantity, not just the number of services we are offering,” said WMCHC Executive Director Frederick Jackson. “We started a patient-centered medical home care initiative. It is a certification that we aimed to achieve. We want to see the transparency that you see on the social services side. People want to see results.”

“We have eight medical centers located throughout Susquehanna, Pike and Lackawanna counties,” said Maria Diehl, public relations specialist at Wayne Memorial Hospital. “The centers offer primary care, women’s health services, pediatrics, behavior health, general surgery and home and health medicine.”
