Communities welcome Kristin White to library post

The new director of the Western Sullivan Public Library (WSPL), Kristin White, was at the Tusten-Cochecton branch on June 4 and Jeffersonville branch on June 6 to meet and greet members of the public. A third opportunity to meet White is scheduled for June 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Delaware Free branch in Callicoon, NY. White will oversee all three branches.

White hails from Eastern Tennessee, but has spent the past 11 years in the Upper Delaware region. White discovered her love of libraries after volunteering and then working as a library clerk at the Louise-Adelia Read Memorial Library in Hancock.

In 2007, she was offered the director’s position at the Roscoe Free Library in Roscoe.

One of White’s first goals is to establish a Friends of the Library group in support of WSPL and volunteers are sought for that effort. Other initiatives will be considered as she continues to work with the library board, staff and patrons. “I’m settling in and enjoying getting to know the people and communities,” said White. “It’s really nice to be back. It’s what we’ve been looking for.”

White and her husband, Jeff, who is a fly fishing guide, enjoy the companionship of their two Labrador retrievers and a cat. She likes to garden, knit, ride horses, craft and read.

White can be reached at kwhite@rcls.org or 845/482-4350.
