GLEN SPEY, NY — Charles Wolff, 18, of Barryville, has been charged with vehicular homicide after a crash that killed his cousin and seriously injured two other passengers.
District Attorney Jim Farrell said Wolff was drunk and driving recklessly on December 22 when he struck a tree on Haring Road.
Wolff’s cousin from New Jersey, Kyle Mackechnie, 18, was killed. Emily Hoffman, 19, of Eldred and Brian Conaty, 19, of Monticello sustained serious injuries and were flown to Westchester Medical Center.
Wolff was arrested at the scene after failing several field sobriety tests. Wolff’s blood alcohol level is being tested. He was arraigned in Tusten Town Court. On December 23, Judge Frank LaBuda set bail at $10,000. Farrell had requested that no bail be set.
