As the 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City approaches, artifacts are on display or being readied for display in at least three locations in Sullivan County.

At the government center in Monticello, there is a display of a crushed door from a fire truck that belonged to Squad 18 of the FDNY.

An accompanying plaque reads: “The squad members are trained and equipped for specialized rescue and hazardous materials. On September 11, seven members of Squad 18 were killed. The captain at the time was Joseph Downey, son of Raymond Downey, then chief of rescue services. The father was killed, the son survived.”

At another location in the Town of Highland, officials were working to finish site preparations for a WTC Memorial featuring a 380-pound piece of steel from the site.

In the Town of Tusten, Ed Jackson has secured another piece of metal from Ground Zero, which he plans to unveil on Veterans Day.
