I was down on Long Island for a memorial service for Jean Kerrigan’s sister (Marie Smith) and nephew (Jeff Smith). Jean’s nephew Jeff was in the military, and they presented the American flag to his son. I’d never seen it done this way before. The two solders came in with the flag already folded, and they unfolded it, inspected it and refolded it. It was a really nice service.

Jean’s sister Marie was a nurse, and all of the nurses (yes, very old ladies) that she worked with came in and did the nurses’ honor for her with white roses. I also went to breakfast on Sunday morning at the Georgia Peach Diner on Queens Boulevard with one of my brothers and my sister and her family. I don’t know if I am old-fashioned or I do not like change, but I flipped out when I saw the White Castle sign and it said “Black Bean Sliders.” Those of you who are White Castle lovers, you must feel my pain. There was nothing better than going to White Castle after a good night of drinking and picking up a dozen little burgers. Those of you who do not know what a White Castle burger is, it was the original slider burger.  They  are small but very powerful. They had a few nicknames, including “murder burgers” and “belly bombers,” and they tasted so good. The next day you would have enough gas to go to New Jersey and back. Hope everyone had a Happy Mother’s Day.
